"300" Battle of Thermopylae

I believe the title above sure sound familiar because this is the title of new movie show in Malaysia. I saw the movie and to be frank the movie gave me the feel like New Age sword style - a "Hercules" movie for the computer age.

Movie summary:

The film is based on the Battle of Thermopylae, where it happen about 2500 years ago, where Spartans and several hundred other Greeks staged the equivalent of a steel-cage smackdown against hundreds of thousands (some accounts go as high as 2 million) of invading Persians.

Written History of the war:

In the Battle of Thermopylae, Greek City unites to fought the invading Persian army at the pass of Thermopylae in central Greece. As in movie, King Leonidas army were outnumbered, yet the Greeks held back the invader in one of history's most famous LAST STAND(A last stand is a term used to describe a body of troops holding a defensive position in the face of overwhelming odds. The defensive force usually takes very heavy casualties and on occasion is completely destroyed.)

So, a small force led by King Leonidas (the Good guy)of Sparta blocked the only road through which the massive army of Xerxes I( the tall muscular with a lot of piercing around his face(bad guy king, he gave me the feel that he is gay) could pass. After three days of battle, a local resident named Ephialtes(the short ugly horny hunchback dude) betrayed the Greeks by revealing a mountain path that led to the defeat of the King Leonidas. Without fears, King Leonidas stayed behind with 300 Spartans and 700 Thespian volunteers. Though they knew it meant their own deaths, they held their position and secured the retreat of the other Greek forces. The Persians succeeded the battle but sustained heavy losses, extremely disproportionate to those of the Greeks.

The fierce resistance of the Spartan-led army offered Athens the precious time to prepare for a decisive naval battle that would come to determine the outcome of the war. Soon later, Xerxes(the Gay dude) was forced to retreat back to Asia.
